Did you wake up one day and realize you completely forgot how to have your own sense of style?
As a mid-20s boutique owner, I'm kind of in the same boat. Yeah, I sell clothes to women in their 20s and 30s, and I'm totally up to date on the latest trends and styles that everyone is wearing. But somewhere in that shuffle, I lost my own sense of style. Over the past year or so, I've been working on getting that back and really enjoying finding my own sense of fashion again. You know, like we all did before we had real jobs, families, and an overwhelming sense of existential dread (kidding).
Over the past couple of years in the fashion industry, I have spoken with many women about the problem that no one seems to be talking about: losing your personal sense of style. As women, we are used to doing everything for everyone, so naturally, as we become adults and have more responsibilities by the minute, one of the first things to go is our personal style (and our commitment to the gym, but that's a whole different topic lol).
So today, I've rounded up a few stylish outfit ideas for women in their 20s and 30s. These outfits are all about comfort and style. As you know, once you're past 25, if it's not comfortable, it's not worth it.
Your 20s and 30s are kind of a weird time for fashion. You're kind of in the middle. You don't want to look too young, like you just stepped out of your last class of the day, but you also don't want to look like you just went shopping with your grandmother at Chico's and she bought you all her favorite items. There's kind of this unspoken middle ground that you find yourself in where you want to look stylish, cool, young, and modest - all at the same time. The aim of these outfits is to bring you both the practicality and trendy style that you're looking for.
#1 - The Classic Band Tee and Denim Combination
Here's a vintage-inspired look that will NEVER go out of style. When you're in a time crunch and looking for a cute and comfortable outfit that you can actually move in, a graphic band tee is a must-have.
Graphic tees have become a staple in many closets over the past couple of years - and for good reason. A graphic tee says a lot about you. It's not your normal, boring tee. There's some personality infused into a graphic tee that allows you to express yourself through style, while remaining comfortable in the process.
Graphic tees are also PERFECT for layering throughout the seasons, and you can basically wear them with anything: jeans, flares, skirts, shorts, skorts...whatever's in your closet. Throw it on with a graphic tee and you have a cute outfit in no time.
Today I wanted to show you how to pair a graphic band tee with denim, particularly this Aerosmith tee from Fidgey Ray Boutique (www.fidgeyray.com). I paired it with Fidgey Ray's Basic Skinny Jean. All you have to do after this is throw on a pair of sandals or sneakers and you're out the door.
In the fall and winter, you can layer this look by adding a cardigan, a bomber jacket, or even a leather jacket if you want to layer on the rock n' roll look. I'm in full support of that idea.
If you want to uplevel this classic combination with a pop of modern style, you can opt for a bright skirt or a pair of cute shorts in lieu of the classic light wash denim. Here are some ideas for those!
Here we have the same graphic tee paired with a pair of Fidgey Ray's
Back in Time Corduroy Shorts. Personally, I love how this outfit makes it look like you put in a lot of effort, when really, it requires about .5 seconds of thought.
I prefer this look paired with sneakers for a fun, youthful look - but if you'd like to pair it with sandals or even boots, I definitely think you could pull it off!
And now for my favorite look - the bright pop of
pink skirt with the Aerosmith graphic tee. I'm in love with this look because it combines two of my favorite things - feminine and edgy design. The bright pink Skirt offsets the grunge look of the graphic tee and creates a really interesting dynamic within the outfit. When you want to create a fun outfit that lets people know you haven't lost your sense of style, while also remaining a little bit more mature than the high school kids down the block, this outfit will be your new go-to.
The skirt definitely elevates the look!
#2 - A Staple for Every Season: A Classic Black Bodysuit
One item you definitely need in your closet in your 30s is a classic black bodysuit. This is like the modernized version of a plain black tee shirt, or the camisoles we all wore in middle and high school (you know, the ones with the lace on the bottom that we used to layer under our Abercrombie polo shirts? It's okay, if you know you know).
Anywayssssss, a bodysuit is so freaking versatile that you'd be crazy not to have at least one in your closet. Pair it with denim, skirts, or high waisted anything and you have a put-together look with no tucking anything in all day.
When you're looking for a bodysuit, fit is SO important. You want it to be comfortable, with a little stretch, and long enough to where it doesn't cut off circulation in your lady parts (I only say this because one bodysuit I bought was definitely not made for comfort, if you know what I mean). This super soft black bodysuit is available at fidgeyray.com, and I 100% recommend it. I literally wear this thing once a week because it's THAT easy to style. And the best part is, it's able to be layered for a cute outfit in any season.
#3 - A Waffle Knit Tank Top and Basically Any Bottoms Ever
Okay, I know I've already said this multiple times, but having your own style in your 20s and 30s does not have to be difficult or require an insane amount of time in the morning.
The key to maintaining your personal style in your 20s and 30s is finding key pieces that you feel comfortable and confident in, and finding ways to incorporate those key pieces in a way that reflects who you are.
One of the key things you need is a flattering top. A lot of 20 and 30-something women struggle with body image, even if it's just because of weight fluctuations and hormonal changes throughout the course of the month. So, you need a couple of pieces that you can feel confident and stylish in, even when Aunt Flo comes for a visit.
I hope this post inspires you to take control over your closet and invest in yourself a little bit, mama! Our 20s and 30s are HARD - whether you're hustling to establish yourself in your career, starting a family and raising kiddos, or both. We believe that you can be comfortable AND stylish, each and every day.
